One of our most asked questions:
What is the difference between Baticlean CR and Baticlean ECR?
CR and ECR are chemically very different. They can achieve the same results, so can be used on the same jobs, but go about it in very different ways.
Both products are pH neutral, meaning that they can be used with confidence on the vast majority of external surfaces including:
…amongst many others.
Neither ECR nor CR will damage these surfaces. Once applied, the surfaces can continue to breathe and do not require rinsing. You also have peace of mind, knowing that you can paint over a treated surface once dry.
Before application of either product, we recommend brushing the surface to remove any moss, leaves, and other loose debris. This means that you are not wasting the product but are allowing as much contact as possible with the surface that you want to clean.
Both products should be used when the surface is dry and expected to be dry for at least 12 hours after application. We recommend staying off a treated surface until it has completely dried. This means that you could be using a treated surface within an hour. What should you do if it rains within 12 hours of application? When it rains, the surface is rinsed so the product will be removed, or at least partially removed. If it's a very light shower that arrives 10-12 hours after application then you may you okay as the product will have had quite a while to start its work however, if it is heavier rain or arrives after only a couple of hours, then a second coat may be required once the surface has dried.
We advise both products to be applied with a sprayer to give you optimal coverage at the ideal concentration and ensure the most even application. We offer a full range of sprayers and lances, including telescopic lances for spraying at a height, especially useful when applying products to a roof. You can browse our extensive range of sprayers and accessories where you should be able to find the products you need.
Now here’s the difference.
The average dilution rate for Baticlean CR is 1 part CR with up to 4 parts water (1:4) - each litre purchased will cover between 20 - 40m2.
However, Baticlean ECR should be diluted with water at a rate of 10% (1:9) meaning that one litre can make 10 litres of solution giving a coverage of between 80m2 - 120m2.
Also, we recommend application of Baticlean CR between 5-30oC. Baticlean ECR is similar, but we recommend not applying when below 10oC, as ECR can 'set' during low temperatures. Should this happen, allow the product to warm before use.
When you are applying on a warm day, please remember that the surface temperature is likely to be higher than the air temperature. If the air temperature is 24oC it is quite likely that, after a few hours of direct sunshine, the ground temperature will be much higher, probably over 30oC. The warmer the surface then the quicker the products will dry before being able to work. If the surface is too cold then they will not be as active, so you may have to apply at a slightly lower dilution rate.
As far as uses, the only difference is the intention - Baticlean ECR is designed for ground surfaces such as driveways, car parks, decking and patios but whilst Baticlean CR can be used on these surfaces, it is really intended for buildings such as roofs and walls.
As part of our ECO-Responsibility range, Baticlean ECR does not contain any chlorinated substances or alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride which you will find in many types of cleaning products that are designed for use on external surfaces.
You may notice the difference in price. Whilst both products work out similar in cost per square metre, Baticlean ECR works out to be more economical with its such high coverage and power per litre, less bottles, labels, lids, and packaging are used for each purchase.
